Course Overview


This course builds on previous management training: Introduction to Leadership & Management, Effective Supervision Skills, Coaching Skills for Managers and Constructive Conversations for Managers. We move on to look at motivational theories and what is important to us as workers; holding adult-adult communication through the transactional analysis model and writing performance improvement plans. Time is built in for delegates to bring current performance issues and address these via small action learning sets as well as develop a management action plan to take forward to supervision.

  • What is motivation? Exploration of four theories
  • What motivates you to come to work (what values are important to you)
  • An introduction to Transactional Analysis and an exploration of the dynamics of Parent, Child and Adult interactions
  • How to stay in your 'adult' when conducting discussions with staff
  • Coaching peers
  • Setting your personal action plan for management development

This course will use a variety of training methods including: tutor presentation, small group work, questionnaires, reflection and discussion.
