Assertiveness
Assertiveness is an attitude of mind and a way of relating to others. It is a positive, optimistic attitude grounded in self-esteem, the value of respectful yet boundaried communication with others, and the ability to protect oneself from bullying, exploitation, attack and hostility. As well as examining differences between assertiveness, passivity and aggression, delegates will learn ways to increase their ability to be assertive in responding to challenges at work and home, recognise their rights, discover how to set effective boundaries, and know when and how to seek support. Course content: · What is assertiveness? · Assertiveness techniques and skills. · A 6-stage process of assertive action. · 8 rules of assertiveness. · The relationship between self-esteem, self-confidence and assertiveness. · Recognising the difference between assertiveness, passivity and aggression. · Knowing your rights. · Limits and boundaries. · Seeking support.
Methods of delivery: Ice breaker, role play, pairs, small and large group exercises, energisers, trainer presentation, facilitation of discussion and interactions, quiz.

Who should attend? People in a work setting regardless of role or function who need time and space to examine, learn and practice positive and assertive techniques for working with others effectively.
