Supporting People with Learning Disabilities & Mental Health Needs (Half Day)

Duration

Half Day

Course Overview

People with learning disabilities are at greater risk of experiencing mental health problems than the general population. Factors in preventing and alleviating the impact of mental ill-health on people with learning disabilities include understanding differences between learning disabilities and mental ill-health, being aware of myths associated with having mental health problems, having knowledge of factors contributing towards mental illness and possible routes to take that will support someone experiencing mental distress. This half-day course aims to enable those supporting people with learning disabilities to be proactive in helping individuals maintain mental well-being and to be better able to identify the onset of, and relapse into, mental ill-health and signpost people to appropriate services.
