Course Overview



Central Training's half day Record Keeping & Report Writing session aims to provide an overview of good practice principles in record keeping and report writing. It aims to build your confidence and skills in writing the types of records needed in your daily work. The session provides a starting pointing to consider your personal action plans to develop your writing skills.

Learning Outcomes



This course aims to equip you with the skills to:
  • Recognise the purpose of different types of written records
  • Distinguish fact from opinion, description from analysis, confidentiality from secrecy
  • Write records that are fit for their intended purpose
  • Identify the implications of relevant legislation around record keeping and report writing
  • Include service users so that their views are represented in their own records
  • Write records that are accessible to service users, colleagues and other professionals

  • Methods of Delivery



    There will be some presentations from the trainer, but the main focus will be on participatory activities. These will include: individual and paired work, looking at and comparing good and ineffective examples of records; practice of record keeping with feedback in a supportive atmosphere.

    Training Considerations

    There are no pre-training requirements for this course. However, you may find it useful to bring some samples of your own records and reports (anonymised) for consideration and supportive feedback during the course.

    The delegates will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of the course.
