Safeguarding for Museum Managers and DSOs

Course Overview



This course has been designed for DSOs and Managers who are taking a lead role in safeguarding within the organisation. The course will help them identify their responsibilities when taking a lead role, both internally and externally working with both adults and young people. The course will consider the requirements of the Care Act 2014, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and updates to statutory guidance.

The programme will focuss on creating a culture of safeguarding across all teams and how to raise confidence so that best practice prevails. The day is designed to be highly practical, offering Managers an opportunity to reflect upon what is working well within their team and what they can do to make further improvements. Through this process, the course aims to improve knowledge and confidence.

Learning Outcomes



This course is designed to help delegates:
  • Familiarise themselves with updates on relevant legislation and statutory guidance
  • Gain clarity on their role and responsibilities as a Manager or DSO
  • Analyse case study referrals and identify good and poor practice
  • Practice writing a high quality referral
  • Identify gaps and what is working well within their teams
  • Describe best practice when working with external agencies
  • When and how to challenge appropriately, following up referrals, and refer directly to the LADO

    • Common errors or mistakes at Management level and how to improve practice
    • Working effectively with external agencies

    Target Audience

    This course is aimed at museum managers, team leaders, DSOs and others with responsibility for safeguarding staff, volunteers, and visitors in museum environments.

    Training Considerations

    Delegates should have attended introductory safeguarding training which provided a general overview of safeguarding vulnerable adults and children. Delegates should also have a good awareness of their organisation's safeguarding policies and procedures.

    Certification

    Delegates will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of this course.
