Safeguarding for Museum Volunteer Managers

Course Overview



This course has been designed for Volunteer Managers who are taking a lead role in safeguarding within the Museum. The session aims to help Managers consider how to create a culture of safeguarding across all teams and how to raise confidence so that best practice prevails. The session is designed to be highly practical, offering Managers an opportunity to reflect upon what is working well within their team and what they can do to make further improvements.

Learning Outcomes



By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Familiarise themselves with updates on relevant legislation and statutory guidance
  • Gain clarity on their role and responsibilities as a Manager or Lead Officer
  • Analyse case study referrals and identify good and poor practice
  • Practice writing a high quality referral
  • Identify gaps and what is working well within their teams
  • Describe best practice when working with external agencies
  • Know when and how to challenge appropriately, following up referrals, and referring directly to the LADO

    • Common errors or mistakes at Management level and how to improve practice
    • Working effectively with external agencies

    Target Audience

    This course is aimed at museum staff and leaders who manage or coordinate volunteers and have safeguarding responsibilities.

    Training Considerations

    Delegates should have attended introductory safeguarding training which provided a general overview of safeguarding vulnerable adults and children. Delegates should also have a good awareness of their organisation's safeguarding policies and procedures.

    Certification

    The delegates will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of the course.
