Course Overview



Central Training's Trauma-Informed Care course is designed to equip delegates with the knowledge and skills to provide trauma-informed support to service users with diverse support needs, including autistic individuals and those with learning disabilities. The trainer will explore what trauma is, how it can present in different groups, and the impact it may have on individuals. Delegates will have the opportunity to reflect on how trauma may have shaped the behaviours and responses of the service users they support, and how they can adapt their approach to ensure care is trauma-informed.

The course aims to equip delegates with the skills to:
  • Define and outline the different types of trauma
  • Consider the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on individuals
  • Understand the window of tolerance
  • Identify the 5 trauma responses
  • Recognise how trauma may present in autistic people and those with learning disabilities
  • Apply a trauma informed approach to reduce the risk of re-traumatisation

  • Methods of Delivery



    The course uses a range of training methods to provide variety and engagement including: trainer presentation, PowerPoint presentations, video, flipchart work, group work and discussion and practical exercises.
