Emergency First Aid at Work (Level 3 Award - Ofqual Regulated)

Duration

1 day

First aid training is not just a regulatory requirement - it is essential for protecting lives, reducing harm, and ensuring safe environments. Without it, emergencies can escalate quickly with serious consequences.

Course Overview

Central Training's Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work is an accredited qualification that equips delegates with the theory and practical skills necessary to perform first aid in emergency situations. The trainer will cover the role of the first aider and demonstrate the appropriate use of multiple first-aid disciplinaries including the recovery position, CPR and the use of defibrillators. Delegates will have the opportunity to practice skills to build confidence in performing first aid and will have their competency assessed against the qualification criteria before receiving their L3 Award.

Learning Outcomes

This course is designed to enable delegates to:
  • Assess situations and casualties
  • Give appropriate care and first aid for conscious or unconscious casualties
  • Treat bleeding, burns, shock and other medical conditions
  • Treat minor injuries

  • Methods of Delivery

The trainer will use visual and practical materials and exercises. This is a participatory course, and we welcome your knowledge and experience.

This is a trainer assessed course and delegates will need to demonstrate an ability to act safely, promptly and effectively in the case of an emergency.

    Target Audience

This qualification is aimed at staff members who wish to become emergency first-aiders in the workplace. It meets the requirements for organisations that have identified, through their first-aid needs assessment, that staff should be trained to this level.

    Training Considerations

It is recommended that centres/employers undertake an initial assessment to ensure that learners are physically capable of completing the practical assessment (reasonable adjustments and/or special considerations to be discussed prior to training date). It is also advised that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in English to enable them to complete the assessment

    Certification

This qualification is graded Pass/Fail. Learners must achieve a pass in both a practical assessment and a centre-marked multiple-choice examination. In line with guidance provided by the HSE, the qualification supports/approves workplace emergency first aiders for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. Therefore, this qualification is valid for three years from the date of award. In addition to this, it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.
