Safeguarding Overview for Managers and DSOs

Course Overview



This course has been designed for Designated Safeguarding Officers (DSOs) and Managers who take a lead role in safeguarding within their organisation. The session will help delegates identify their internal and external responsibilities when leading safeguarding initiatives for adults, children, and young people. The course directly considers the requirements of the Care Act 2014, the Mental Capacity Act 2005, and recent updates to statutory guidance.

The session focuses on creating a robust culture of safeguarding across all teams, raising confidence to ensure best practice prevails. The day is highly practical, offering managers the opportunity to reflect on what is currently working well within their teams and where further improvements can be made. Through this reflective process, the course aims to significantly elevate both professional knowledge and workplace confidence.

  • Gain absolute clarity on their roles and responsibilities as a Manager or DSO
  • Analyse case study referrals to identify good and poor practice

  • Describe best practice when collaborating with external agencies
  • Understand when and how to challenge decisions appropriately, follow up on referrals, and refer directly to the LADO (Local Authority Designated Officer).

    Target Audience

    This course is specifically designed for individuals who hold senior, leadership, or specialised safeguarding responsibilities within their organisation. It is ideal for; Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) and DSOs (both new to the role or seeking a comprehensive refresher), Service Managers, and Team Leaders, HR Professionals responsible for setting organisational safeguarding policies and culture, Designated Trustees or Board Members who hold governance oversight for safeguarding compliance.

    Training Considerations

    Delegates should already possess a foundational understanding of basic safeguarding principles before attending this management-level oversight session.
