Mental Health & Wellbeing in the Workplace

Course Overview This course provides delegates with an understanding of mental health and wellbeing in the workplace and the factors that can positively or negatively affect them. Delegates will explore how to recognise signs that a colleague may be struggling, respond appropriately and have supportive conversations. The course also considers workplace stress, stigma and discrimination, as well as practical approaches to promoting positive mental health and supporting individual wellbeing.
Learning Outcomes
This course aims to equip delegates with the skills to- Explain mental health and wellbeing and the factors that can influence them
- Recognise signs of stress and common mental health difficulties in the workplace
- Understand the impact of workplace factors, including remote and hybrid working, on wellbeing
- Respond confidently and appropriately when a colleague may need support
- Use active listening and supportive communication to have conversations about mental health
- Identify practical approaches to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing at work
Methods of Delivery The trainer will use presentations, case studies and practical exercises to support learning. Delegates will be encouraged to participate in group discussions and activities, enabling them to apply their learning to situations relevant to the workplace.

- Mental health and wellbeing: risk factors, protective factors and changing needs
- Workplace stress, warning signs and the HSE Management Standards
- Depression, anxiety and other common mental health difficulties
- Having supportive conversations, active listening and accessing further support
- Stigma, discrimination and creating a supportive workplace culture
- Wellbeing strategies, Wellness Action Plans and individual self-care

This course is suitable for anyone who would like to develop their understanding of mental health and wellbeing in the workplace and feel more confident recognising and responding to colleagues who may need support.
