Course Overview


This course will give health care workers an opportunity to explore issues surrounding drug and medication administration, thereby raising awareness and developing an understanding of this subject.
Refreshment of this qualification is recommended at least every 3 years.

By the end of the course, delegates will be confident in:

    Course Content

    • Understand the clinical meaning of drugs
    • Identify the different forms of medication, system of naming and grouping
    • Understand how drugs work, their effects, side effects and interactions
    • Review the 8 principles of handling medication
    • Sourcing, storing, administering, recording and disposing of medicines
    • Understand the importance of choice, consent and mental capacity

    Target Audience

    Individuals, including volunteers, in the social care field whose work includes administering medication to customers or in supporting customers who self-medicate.

    Training Considerations

    Delegates should familiarise themselves with the procedures for medication administration at their workplace.

    Certification

    The delegates will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of the course.
