Lone Working: Assessing & Controlling Risks (1/2 Day Workshop) ½ day (3 hrs)

Course Overview


Lone working can be an area of work that can cause workers considerable stress and anxiety. This is particularly the case when workers have not considered the potential risks involved in a rational way, or when they feel unsupported by their organisation.

This course aims to raise awareness of personal safety issues, and provides an opportunity for delegates to learn strategies to reduce the risk in their own work situations.

  • The importance of taking personal responsibility for safety in lone working situations
  • How the maintenance of boundaries and good practice impacts on lone working
  • The importance of formal risk management and ongoing informal risk assessment in a lone working context

  • The need for effective communication and recording

Methods of Delivery


The course uses a range of training methods to provide variety and engagement including: trainer presentation, PowerPoint presentations, flipchart work, group work and discussion, case studies and practical exercises. Delegates will be encouraged to share their own experiences and perspectives throughout. The training is supported by comprehensive learner notes.

By the end of this course participants should
  • be aware of the risks associated with lone working, including environmental and personal factors
  • understand the triggers of anger and aggression and how we normally respond to anger and aggression in others
  • have identified methods to manage aggressive behaviours
  • have identified practical ways to reduce risk in your own work environment.

Anyone who lone works or supervises others who do.
