Course Overview Central Training's Self-Harm: Support Strategies & Risk Assessment course is designed to equip delegates with the skills and understanding to support individuals who self-harm in a safe and person-centred way. The trainer will provide an overview of the different forms of self-harm, explore the reasons why a person might engage in self-harming behaviours, and outline current treatment pathways and therapeutic approaches. Delegates will have the opportunity to explore real-life scenarios, reflect on their own responses, and develop practical approaches to supporting individuals who self-harm, tailored to a variety of settings. The course will also highlight the impact on staff and the importance of reflective practice and self-care.
Learning Outcomes This course aims to equip delegates with the skills to: Define self-harm and the different forms it can take Identify causes, functions and risk factors for self-harm Identify treatment pathways and evidence-based therapies for people who self-harm Describe a variety of support approaches that might be of help to someone who self-harms
Methods of Delivery The trainer will use a variety of learning methods to both inform and engage delegates in a relaxed and interactive atmosphere, including PowerPoint presentation, flipchart work, group discussions and small group work.
