Course Content

  • Main types of epilepsy and types of seizures
  • The anatomy of the brain and the principal functions of each area of the brain
  • Cycle of emotional and psychological stages that individuals go through
  • Assessing and managing the biological, psychological and social impact of epilepsy
  • Seizure triggers and how to avoid them
  • Responding to and supporting someone who is having a seizure
  • The importance of recording seizures
  • 'Duty of care' in relation to support
  • Purpose of risk assessment with health and safety issues
  • Anti-epilepsy medication and how it is used
  • Surgical and dietary interventions and complementary/alternative therapies for support

Target Audience

Anyone who works in the social care field and comes into contact with customers that have epilepsy.

Training Considerations

Participants should familiarise themselves with current procedures and guidelines in their current workplace.

Certification

The delegates will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of the course.
