Basic Welfare Benefits An Introduction

Course Overview



The welfare benefits system is of vital importance to millions of people in the UK. However, it may sometimes seem complicated and confusing to both claimants and those responsible to advise and support them.
This training aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to Welfare Benefits and is intended for staff whose role includes helping customers with social security queries.
The course will cover different welfare benefit possibilities for customers in a range of different circumstances, including unemployed or sick people, tenants, those in work but in low pay, and also disabled people. The aim is to increase delegates' awareness of the key welfare benefits available to new and established claimants.


Learning Outcomes



This course aims to equip delegates with the tools to:
  • Understand how the benefit system can assist customers
  • Identify claim possibilities for customers in a range of circumstances
  • Recognise how welfare reform will impact claimants, including Universal Credit

  • Methods of Delivery



    The day is broken up by a series of exercises focussing on each of the areas covered and the trainer employs visual aids and prompts to ensure the complexity of the subject is communicated in a user-friendly way.

    • The impact of Universal Credit on the current benefit regime

    Target Audience

    Frontline staff whose role includes giving advice or information to customers in relation to welfare benefits. This course is aimed at those new to this role or staff who do not have welfare benefits experience. Please note that this course is not intended as an update training (this is available as a separate course). This training will be covering basic concepts and it assumes no prior knowledge of the benefits system.

    Training Considerations

    This course will be covering basic concepts, and assumes no prior knowledge of the benefits system.

    Certification

    Upon completion of the course, the delegates will receive a certificate of attendance.
