Complex Trauma
Duration 1 day
Course Overview The course explores how a client's traumatic experiences arise from being subject to: sexual abuse, bereavement, neglect, abandonment and physical or emotional cruelty, each having a significant negative effect initially on childhood development. These dynamics then create issues for adult adjustment and the problems become complex when the individual is shut down and not heard. Previously, many practitioners will have intervened with a client, often over decades, and so these childhood dynamics will have remained unresolved, otherwise they would have recovered.
This course aims to focus on identifying the different components of complex trauma whilst thinking through the support systems required to build a care pathway. Active listening, documenting the legacies, developing care pathways entails being listened to, identifying the underlying dynamics and then reflecting on which support systems are available within a locality.
