Universal Credit

Duration

1 day Course Time: 9.30am - 4.30pm

Universal Credit is a monthly payment system which helps claimants with their living costs. This one day training course focuses on Universal Credit (UC), which is now being rolled out across the UK following a long period of delays and issues experienced along the way. Whilst this new benefit system will benefit some, others will be left at a disadvantage. UC will eventually take over means tested benefit responsibility for around 7 million awards for working age people.

  • The introduction timetable
  • The basic rules, conditionality and issues around making claims and how vulnerable claimants might be protected
  • The system that migrates legacy claimants onto UC will also be looked at.

    Participants will be trained as a group, using a PowerPoint presentation and supporting notes. Questions and comments will be encouraged, and

    Course Content

    By the end of this course, participants will
    • Have a stronger understanding of the aims of UC
    • How UC differs from the old (Legacy) system it is replacing and how the basic UC rules work
    • Understand the claiming structure and how more vulnerable claimants may be supported through claims
    • Understand the migration process of UC

    Target Audience

    Individuals who are in contact with members of the public who may need to claim Universal Credit.

    Training Considerations

    There are no pre training requirements for this course, although basic knowledge of the Legacy system will be an advantage to participants.

    Certification

    Delegates will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of this course.
