Person-Centred Active Support

Course Overview

This course will introduce delegates to Person Centred Active Support. This is an approach to learning disability provision that encourages staff to shift from purely 'caring for' to 'working with' the people they support. This means that people with learning disabilities develop their skills and become more involved in their own lives, thus fostering confidence and self-esteem. The Person Centred Active Support model is now widely recognised as the optimal practice in learning-disability provision.
This course aims to give delegates an understanding of the key principles underpinning the approach and give them practical skills to implement in the workplace.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
  • Explain what is the Person Centred Active Support model
  • Describe what constitutes a meaningful activity
  • Describe the impact that non-involvement in such activities can have on the individual
  • State the 4 key principles of Person Centred Active Support and explain what each means in practice
