Youth Mental Health First Aid (Half Day)

Course Overview


This accredited MHFA (England) course provides an overview of young people's mental health and the factors that affect wellbeing. It also focuses on the practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues, reassure and support a young person in distress and help them recover their health by guiding them to further support.

Everyone who completes the course gets a Youth MHFA manual to refer to whenever they need it and a certificate to say they are Youth Mental Health Aware.


Learning Outcomes


This course aims to equip delegates with the skills to:
  • Understand some common mental health issues and how they can affect young people
  • Work more effectively with young people living with mental health issues
  • Support young people with a mental health issue and relate to their experiences
  • Foster positive wellbeing


  • Methods of Delivery


    Learning takes place through group activities, videos, presentations and discussions. Each topic is explored with sensitivity to minimise any distress regarding some of the more serious mental health issues covered. Participants aren't expected to disclose personal information but a group confidentiality agreement is in place if they do so.

    Target Audience

    Anyone who works with young people aged 8-18 and would like to improve their knowledge and confidence in dealing with mental health issues and offer early intervention.

    Training Considerations

    Each topic is explored with sensitivity to minimise any distress regarding some of the more serious mental health issues covered. Participants aren't expected to disclose personal information but a group confidentiality agreement is in place if they do so. There are no pre-training requirements for this course.

    Certification

    Upon completion of the course, the delegates will receive a certificate to say they are Youth Mental Health Aware.
