Course Overview



This course will give you a good foundation and awareness in understanding what Child-to-Parent Violence and Abuse is and enable you to understand the complexities and difficulties facing parents and children in a home where a child/teen uses Violence/Abuse towards their parents. The course will also look at non-violent resistance and how it can be applied.

By the end of this session, delegates will have covered:
  • Definitions and categories of "family" and "violence/abuse"
  • Criteria of abusive behaviours
  • The Escalation Cycle
  • Non-violent Resistance
  • The difficulties parents face and different parenting styles

    The facilitator uses a wide range of methods including group discussion, sub-group work, PowerPoint presentation, interactive exercises, case studies, flipchart work to ensure that the course objectives are met.

    Training Considerations

    Delegates should consider how they define and understand what a 'child' and a 'parent' is. They should then bring their definitions on the day of the training in any format and size they prefer (e.g. drawing, collage, photographs, words).

    Certification

    Upon completion of the course, the delegates will receive a certificate of attendance.
