Course Overview



This course will give you a good foundation and understanding of domestic violence/abuse and enable you to understand its complexities. There is often confusion around what constitutes domestic violence and abuse so this course is for delegates who believe that their practice can improve by gaining a better understanding of Domestic Violence and the complexities of intimate partner abuse. We will also look at and understand why female victims stay in a relationship as well as exploring the mind of a perpetrator.

Learning Outcomes



By the end of this course delegates will have covered:
  • Current government definitions and legislation
  • The complexity of power and control in intimate partner relationships
  • The cycle of violence and why victims stay in abusive relationships
  • Coercive Control and the categories of violence/abuse
  • The way perpetrators use power and control
  • Signposting options and how to safely respond to disclosures of abuse

  • Methods of Delivery



    The facilitator will use a wide range of methods including group discussion, sub-group work, Powerpoint presentation, interactive exercises, case studies, and flipchart work to ensure that the course objectives are met.
