Course Overview



Central Training's Harmful Practices course aims to give an overview of Harmful Practices including female genital mutilation (FGM), breast ironing/flattening, honour based abuse and forced marriage. Different organisations and people working with individuals should be aware of the signs of abuse so that they can identify cases of victims who may be in need of help or protection. This training course provides the opportunity to explore practical ways to create an open and supportive environment, it allows for local issues to be explored, and it provides the space for discussion.


Learning Outcomes



This course aims to equip delegates with the skills to:
  • Recognise the different forms of Harmful Practice
  • Explore the impact on victims
  • Identify practice issues and cultural sensitivity/community beliefs
  • Understand human rights and other legislation
  • Assess and manage risk to increase safety of victims
  • Know the resources and support services available
  • Identify triggers and risk indicators for the victim

    Attendees are provided with course handouts for use on the day and for future reference. The trainer uses a variety of visual presentation, flipchart work, plenary discussion and subgroup work to ensure that all course objectives are met, while providing a safe, open forum for delegates to exchange views and practices.
