Communicating Effectively with People with Learning Disabilities

Course Overview



Central Training's Communicating Effectively with People with Learning Disabilities course aims to enhance participants' practical communication skills and to teach new strategies to improve communication with people with learning disabilities. Candidates will explore the importance of effective listening skills and non-verbal communication and will identify practice improvement for their own workplace. The trainer will also cover different types of communication including intensive interaction, objects of reference, sensory communication and social stories. Finally, the course includes a Makaton taster session on how to use 40 key signs and symbols.

    The course uses a range of training methods to provide variety and engagement including: trainer presentation, group work and discussion, case studies and practical exercises. Delegates will be encouraged to share their own experiences and perspectives throughout. The training is supported by comprehensive learner notes.
