Course Overview



The course aims to introduce delegates to the principles and practices of moving and transferring of clients.
The morning session focuses on the theory and legislation of moving and handling and the afternoon session includes practical work involving use of the hoist, slide sheets, transfer belt, mobility board and other equipment involving moving and transferring of clients.
With the practical pm session, the trainer aims to increase awareness of possible injuries to the delegates themselves and enable them to carry out transfer operations safely. Refreshment of this qualification is recommended annually.

Learning Outcomes



This course aims to provide the delegates with an enhanced understanding of:
  • Employee and employer responsibilities in relation to current legislation and regulation
  • The basic structure of the spine
  • Basic manoeuvres and transfers
  • Use of moving and handling equipment
  • Risk assessment and practice

    The trainer uses a variety of PowerPoint presentation, flipchart work, discussion and group work to ensure that all the course objectives are met. This training will also involve practicing moving and handling techniques using equipment such a hoist and other moving and transferring equipment.

    This course is suitable for individuals who work within the social care sector and have the responsibility of and are involved in moving and handling.

    Training Considerations

    Attendees are required to have appropriate footwear (i.e. flat heeled, non-slip shoes) for the practical session. Delegates must inform of any injury, illness, physical impairment or pregnancy due to the mandatory practical elements of the course. Non-restrictive, comfortable and non-revealing clothing is also advised for safety, comfort and preservation of dignity.

    Certification

    The delegates will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of the course.
